Divertion
Sometimes we cannot land at the airfield we had planned. We have to divert. To do this:
- Calculate an estimated Heading to the diversion airfield to within 10°.
- Refine the heading calculation using the protractor.
- Calculate and respect a safety altitude in relation to the terrain with the ICAO chart.
- Check that no special status areas are to be passed.
- Calculate a first vertical estimate of the diversion area with the fingers (one finger = 5 nautical miles = 10 km on the ICAO chart).
- Landmarks are taken for a diversion longer than 15 minutes.
- A fuel balance is made.
- Prepare for arrival at the diversion site:
- Frequencies
- Aerodrome Integration Altitude
- Airstick, QFU, altitude and turn situation
