When the north wind blows on the snowy steppes of Central Asia, no one can hear you die. For Yeruldelgger, salvation can only come from far, far away...
In order to escape a plot he is the target of, Yeruldelgger investigates the death of a prostitute and the disappearance of her adopted son, while his team members try to solve two very strange deaths. Their research leads them to the borders of Mongolia, Russia and China, as well as to Le Havre, where the discovery of the bodies of six young boys in a container will give this case a whole new dimension.
Les temps sauvages is the second opus of Ian Manook's trilogy featuring the adventures of Yeruldegger, a Mongolian cop. I haven't read the first opus, but I could still enjoy this one, even if I couldn't understand all the references.
The book as a whole is quite long, for not much. The final is in any case a bit simple for such a complicated investigation. Because yes, it must be said that the investigation is convoluted, a little too much even. It goes in all directions, there are several parallel stories, there are stories of conspiracy, corruption, espionage, the secret services, the military, the police, murders, several police investigations ... In short, it is a bit too much, and we get lost, even if the author sometimes manages to put us back on track.
The scenario is sometimes incoherent, and the characters always manage to get out of the worst troubles even when everything seems hopeless, as if by magic. Certainly, these moments of tension are interesting, but from a scenaristic point of view it is not necessarily coherent.
The characters are interesting, even if some of them are useless, and some of them come out of nowhere, at any time. In any case the main characters of Yeruldelgger and Oyun are very good.
As for the author's style, it is very descriptive, sometimes comical, quite a lot of interesting dialogues, in short, it is pleasant to read and the very vivid descriptions allow the reader's imagination to work.
Read the summary. If you like it, you can dive into the book, but if it doesn't speak to you, don't force yourself.
