Die Hard - 1988

Quick Summary

New York City policeman John McClane (Bruce Willis) is visiting his estranged wife (Bonnie Bedelia) and two daughters on Christmas Eve. He joins her at a holiday party in the headquarters of the Japanese-owned business she works for.

But the festivities are interrupted by a group of terrorists who take over the exclusive high-rise, and everyone in it. Very soon McClane realizes that there's no one to save the hostages -- but him.

My Thoughts

The first of the "Die Hard" saga is a cinematic gem and plunges us directly into the action.

All the ingredients are there: the jokes, the action, the special effects, the explosions, the blood, the great soundtrack, and above all the suspense. Some of the lines are cult and very funny, especially the "Yippee-ki-yay, motherf*cker".

The scenario keeps us in suspense until the end, even if the beginning is a little bit slow. I like the fact that our hero, played by Bruce Willis, doesn't think he is invincible, which is rare in action movies. Besides, many times in the film he will know moments of weakness.

Speaking of Bruce Willis, he gave an excellent performance, as did Alan Rickmann in the role of the terrorist leader. On the other hand, it would be reductive to stop only on these two, the majority of the actors were very good.

In short, this outstanding action movie offers us a very enjoyable show, from which we can get some cult lines. A good entertainment.

To Watch or Not to Watch?

This film is not perfect, but it is very successful, so I would recommend it to just about anyone.
